Note: this page is stil being composed and edited , but do feel free to read what is here so far.

How can hypnotherapy help with IBS?

IBS can often be triggered off by stess. ie stress is the stimuli which sets off the spasms, cramps or other reactions affecting the small or large bowel. Hypnotherapy could help in the following ways:

  • Helping you to relax, easing the symptoms if they are triggered by stress
  • Teaching you powerful, creative visualisation techniques to imagine relief for your symptoms
  • Programming in a new, more useful, more positive reaction to stress triggers

Thanks largely to the work of Peter Whorwell of Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, hypnosis is now acknowledged by the medical profession as an effective treatment for IBS.

Hypnotherapy has been shown the be one of the most useful methods of ameliorating symptoms of IBS

Sessions of hypnotherapy , interspersed with home practice using a CD, are aimed at “retraining” a patient’s gut and eradicating their problems.

Since IBS affects everyone differently, the therapy is tailored to each patient.

  • - It is a uniquely comfortable form of treatment; relaxing, easy and generally enjoyable.
  • It utilizes the healing power of the person’s own mind, and is generally completely without negative side effects.
  • Hypnotherapy has  been repeatedly proven to be highly effective means of reducing and even eliminating all the major symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, including pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, nausea, and gas.
  • The treatment usually results in improvement in many other areas of the clients life, along with the specific improvement in IBS symptoms.
  • The beneficial effects of the treatment last long after the end of the course of treatment. According to research, individuals who improve from hypnosis treatment for IBS can generally look forward to years of reduced bowel symptoms.

All of this is rarely achieved in just the one session!

although great improvement is often noticed after the first session of treatment, it usually takes between  five and ten sessions along with regular practice at home to achieve lasting results.
